Execution & steering
Autonomy is bounded, explicit and governed.
Not every action should be autonomous. Vlera OS separates what should happen from what an operator may do, and keeps both inside the limits you set.
What should happen?
- An action
- Decision gatePolicy · Risk · Scope · Reversibility · Evidence · Authority
- Explicit boundaryAutonomous within narrow boundsExecute with approvalPrepared for youTask for a personObserve / wait
- Verification returns into governance
What may this operator do?
- Observe
- Recommend
- Prepare
- Execute with approval
- Autonomous within policy
The gate
Six questions decide before anything happens.
The mode is not a default. Routing chooses it per priority, by these questions.
- PolicyWhat have you specified? Your rules come before any default.
- RiskDoes it act outwards or stay internal?
- ScopeWhat exactly would be affected? The scope is stated explicitly and never assumed.
- ReversibilityCan it be taken back? What is reversible may go further than what is final.
- EvidenceHow reliable is the knowledge? Estimated and outdated knowledge calls for more oversight.
- AuthorityWho may decide? Owners and administrators may approve.
What should happen?
A. Execution mode
Five modes for carrying out an action.
The execution mode describes the kind of execution. It says nothing about what an operator may do at all.
- Autonomous within narrow boundsChosen whenThe change is small, reversible and within a limit you have explicitly allowed.Every execution in the audit trail, with the option to stop it at any time.
- Execute with approvalChosen whenThe change reaches outwards or is hard to reverse. The prepared change in advance, exactly as it would be carried out.
- Prepared for youChosen whenThe publication should stay with you because tone, timing or relationship belong to it.Draft and rationale, ready for your own use.
- Task for a personChosen whenIt takes judgement, a relationship or a decision that rests with a person.A task with rationale, responsibility and preparation.
- Observe / waitChosen whenThe knowledge is not enough for a decision, or the situation resolves itself.A set point in time at which it is assessed again.
Human and digital execution are equal. The mode follows the matter, not the tool.
What may this operator do?
B. Operator autonomy policy
How far an operator may go on its own is for you to set.
A second, separate layer: it applies per operator and is independent of the chosen execution mode.
- ObserveReads and observes. Does not act.
- RecommendSuggests and explains. Does not act.
- PreparePrepares the draft and the change. Does not publish.
- Execute with approvalCarries out the change as soon as you approve exactly that change.Example: the limit you set
- Autonomous within policyActs on its own, but only inside the limits you have explicitly allowed.
The scope is explicit: an operator may only do what was allowed for a precisely named area. Nothing counts as implicitly included.
The limit is yours. You can draw it narrower or wider if you trust the evidence of a mode, and every change stays traceable.
Two layers
Two questions that are never mixed.
What should happen?Execution mode: what should happen? Autonomous, after approval, prepared, by a person or observing.
What may this operator do?Autonomy policy: what may this operator do? Observe, recommend, prepare, execute with approval or act on its own within the policy.
Governance
The more is carried out, the more the protective layer matters.
Governance is not an obstacle on the way but the reason the way can be taken. It sets what Vlera OS may do, records every step and leaves you the ability to intervene at any time.
- ApprovalWhat reaches outwards waits for your yes. The approval applies to exactly the prepared change.
- LimitsAutonomous action exists only where you have explicitly allowed it, and only within tightly drawn limits.
- Audit trailWho initiated, approved and carried out what and when: every step has an originator and stays traceable.
- InterventionYou can discard a prepared action and stop an autonomous action at any time.
The path of an approved change
- Prepared
- Approved, bound to the exact wording
- Carried out
- Verified at the target
- Recorded in the audit trail
- Bound to the exact changeWhoever approves sees the wording. A different change needs a new approval.
- Valid while the basis holdsIf content, goal or timing change, the approval becomes invalid. It also expires after a set time.
- By authorised peopleOwners and administrators may approve. Other members see proposals.
- Reject and withdrawA prepared action can be discarded at any time before it is carried out.
Audit trail
Every step has an originator.
From the proposal to the outcome it stays on record who or what took a step. That keeps it traceable at any time why something happened.
Example for illustration, not a customer statement
- SystemPriority justified, execution mode chosen: execute with approval
- SystemChange prepared, wording recorded
- YouExactly this change approved
- SystemChange carried out
- SystemTechnically verified: it has arrived
- SystemOutcome observed and classified as a relationship
Executed is not successful: verification and impact appear as steps of their own in the audit trail.
